The second edition of the Rural Youth Innovation Award in Latin America and the Caribbean has:
The Award`s participating initiatives must be good practices and technologies already implemented that aim to mitigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region. They must be effective in resolving issues related to the rural area, especially of small local farmers.
Upon applying, the participating initiatives must indicate that their activities are focused in one of the categories below:
Initiatives that promote or support market access for small and medium rural producers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. They may include support on the development and consolidation of strategies by producers, promote the development or the connection to new distribution channels (online and/or offline), development of software, hardware and/or platforms.
Initiatives that facilitate the capacity and / or possibility of rural inhabitants to operate in a network environment. It includes services that promote the development of devices, operating systems, platforms and / or programs that promote free access, whether on mobile or fixed/desktop devices.
Initiatives that promote greater and better access to financial institutions, either for people or companies. They must foster services and products use and/or promote offer’s quality and variety within rural areas. This category can also include the creation and supply of financial products and services towards the rural needs and reality.
Initiatives that promote the recovery and/or reuse of waste from the production system, including crop residues and materials associated with agricultural production (such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides and their packaging, animal waste, veterinary products, brake pads and pads) or consumption and the use of renewable energy.
Initiatives that generate impact in terms of empowerment and/or inclusion of vulnerable, minority and/or excluded groups, such as women and LGBT+ people. They must mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and/or promote the inclusion and participation of those grupos on economic, social and political perspectives.
Important to note that initiatives created and led by people belonging to these groups will have an advantage over the others.
